LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAMINATIONS

In regulated professions, language proficiency examinations serve as a means to ensure that professionals can communicate at a suitable level.  It is advised that applicants check with their association for the list of acceptable examinations and the scores that must be achieved for registration.

Some general tips in regards to language proficiency examinations in general are:

·         Prepare for the exam!  Sometimes everyday interaction in English may not be enough to achieve an acceptable score.  Consult the list of resources or consider taking a preparation course.

·         Do not be late – otherwise, applicants may forfeit the exam fee.  Be aware of the cancellation and refund policy.

·         Know what documents will be required to write the test.  Be sure to have the proper identification, confirmation documents and/or supplies.

·         Be aware of the length of the test.  As applicants may have to travel out of town to the testing centre, and due to scheduling considerations, they may have to remain at the testing site for the entire day.

·         Dress comfortably for the exam.
