VETERINARIANS
The Centre has
facilitated a number of peer-to-peer mentoring relationships connecting
the Veterinarians with little or no knowledge of the licensure process
in Canada to the professionals who have made more progress. For
example, those who have passed the first licensure examination or have
secured a volunteer traineeship at a clinic/animal hospital are linked
with those who have not secured any links to the field. The Centre’s
Veterinarian clients are introduced to each other face-to-face or
through e-mail by the Program Liaison Officer who works with this
professional group.
A Support Group is
being currently formed and forums for Veterinarian clients are planned
to take place monthly starting June 2006. These forums will give the
Veterinarians opportunities to network, exchange industry news and
volunteer/interim job leads, and share the experiences of preparing for
and challenging the licensure examinations. Representatives from the
Alberta Veterinarian Medical Association will be invited with guest
presentations on the current licensure requirements, labour market
outlook for the Veterinary practice in Alberta and career opportunities
for Veterinary graduates in various industries.
The Centre is
currently engaging our Veterinarian clients in forming a study group for
the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE). A variety
of textbooks, reference guides and other preparatory materials have been
purchased and will be available to the Support Group members for
in-Centre use and on loan.
The Veterinarian
Program Liaison Officer maintains regular communication with the
Veterinarian clients through an electronic list by sending regular
updates on the Centre’s events, news from the industry and relevant
volunteer, educational and employment opportunities.
