SELF-ASSESSMENT TOOLS

What Are Self-Assessments?

At the heart of self-assessments lie self-education and self-awareness.  Self-assessments are self-evaluation processes through which you gain insight into who you are as a person, and become aware of your strengths, weaknesses, goals, values, abilities, skills and knowledge.

Self assessments are self empowering because of the knowledge you gain from them.  Through in-depth examinations, you are moving from the unknown to self realizations; you also are taking accountability for yourself by willingly discovering things about yourself that you may find very interesting and helpful as well as other insights that could even surprise you.

The process of self-assessments provides an opportunity for individuals to either support what is already known or to highlight areas that require improvement.

How to Complete Self-Assessments

·         First and foremost, make it an enjoyable experience: Choose a time and place where you won't be disturbed or interrupted.

·         Take your time.  Remember that this is something that you are doing for yourself, so don’t rush through the questions.

·         There are no right or wrong answers.  The best answer to choose is the one that you most identify with.

·         Answer honestly.  As much as possible avoid the temptation to choose answers simply because they sound most desirable.  This may diminish the accuracy of your feedback.

·         Follow your first reaction.  In questions where you are inclined to answer 'it depends', think about your behavioral tendencies - what do you do on a daily basis?

Benefits of Self-Assessments

·         The most important benefit is that you are experiencing the true benefit of knowing yourself.  After all, when we know ourselves, we can make appropriate choices.

·         With self-assessment comes clarification regarding the next course of actions that you might take.  You choose the direction you want to take and the steps necessary to achieve your goals.

·         Self-assessments allow you the awareness necessary to develop a long-term plan based on your current situation and knowledge.

·         Added benefit of self-assessments is that they are truly confidential.  No one needs to know your results without you choosing to share them.

·         You can complete the questionnaires on-line and in your own time.

·         Self assessments provide you with feedback and recommended strategies

·         You can revisit self-assessments at later times to track your own improvement over time.
