The Career
Focus program facilitates the placement of post-secondary graduates in a
career-related work opportunity. The Youth Industry Internship Program
assists immigrant youth between the ages of 18 and 30 to find and retain
long-term employment. This unique program prepares immigrant youth with
transferable skills that will lead to job retention and opportunities
for career advancement. The Youth Skills Connections Centre offers
outreach, assessment, referral and follow-up to immigrant and refugee
youth between the ages of 15 and 30 who are having difficulty
identifying career goals and who are facing challenges integrating into
the Canadian workplace. Bridging the Gap for Human Service
Professionals through Skill Building and Placement is for foreign
trained human service professionals to gain experience in their field of
work. The employment skills development project includes a six week
workshop training component and a minimum of three months volunteer
placement.

Business, employment and training services are provided to all refugees
and immigrants in the areas of pre-employment training through the
computer training program, millwright program and youth employment
program, as well as pre-employment counselling,
employer and community outreach
and the hotel recruitment project. The
Engineering & Technology Upgrading
Program provides the opportunity to upgrade and integrate
their written and verbal communication skills, improve computer skills
and supply three levels of training on AutoCAD, designed to cover basic
AutoCAD features and commands, including 3D and multiview drawing.

Services Personnel provide career guidance and assist with research,
applications and networking in the resource centre, which is equipped

specific programs. The Youth Possibilities Program assists youth ages
17-27 learn valuable life and employment

number of free services tailored to meet the individual needs of
internationally trained and educated professionals. These services
include a specialized resource centre, one-on-one counselling and
support, occupation-specific information sessions and study groups,
language assessments, help with credentialing and licensing, job finding
support, mentoring and work experience. Two integrated bridging
programs are offered as well, they are: The International Pharmacy
Bridging program and the International Engineer Bridging program. These

Making
Changes Program is a pre-employment, life skill orientation program with
an English component. The Volunteer Support Program is designed
specifically to serve immigrant women by helping them to acquire new
skills in their new country, and eventually to secure employment of
their choice in Canada. A Mentorship program matches immigrant women,
who are seeking employment or information about a specific or general
occupation or career, with women who are currently working in that area
or a related area (the mentors). Basic computer classes are also offered.

Options for New Canadians is designed for students who have career
credentials and are trying to establish themselves in a Canadian
workplace. Integrated Employabilities Preparation helps students to
develop the skills and attitudes needed in today’s workplace. It offers
a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training.
Integrated Skills Preparation integrates language training, academic
upgrading, employment skills and certified training in one of eight
occupation areas. This program includes WHMIS, First Aid and safety
