Our
innovative international pharmacy bridging program has been designed to assist internationally
trained pharmacists to acquire a license to practice pharmacy in
Alberta. Our all inclusive program provides students with an enhanced
learning opportunity, integrating four distinct curriculum areas
throughout the duration of study. Upon successful completion of
examinations requisite for licensure, our graduates are fully prepared
to launch active, successful and rewarding careers within the Alberta
pharmacy workforce and greater community.

Would you like assistance preparing for the OSCE
examination?
Our course is open to our current students registered for the OSCE as well as to all interested IPGs from Alberta - and other
Provinces - who are looking for intensive help in preparation for when
they register to take the the OSCE examination.
Brief Course Overview
The course will include a jurisprudence and ethics
review, drills on the texts most commonly used in the OSCE, therapeutic
'tune-ups' on specifically identified topics, OTC counselling,
prescription counselling and other sessions involving Enhanced Language
Training techniques, devices etc..
Students engage in a
10-station mock OSCE on the final day.
Our course is offered in collaboration with Instructors from the
University of Alberta and guest speakers drawn from successful past
Bredin Institute graduates of our International Pharmacy Bridging Program.
Instructors

Lisa DeVos, BSc.Pharm, CAE
Lisa is the chief consultant for Intelliscope Consulting Inc., which
focuses on providing both clinical pharmacy and administrative
consulting services to a variety of clients. Lisa has been working with
the Bredin Institute since 2004 on various educational initiatives for
internationally trained pharmacists and other internationally trained
professionals, including developing the pilot pharmacy and therapeutics
curriculum for Bredin Institute’s International Pharmacy Bridging
Program. In this time, she has instructed in the areas of pharmacy
practice, pharmacy communication and therapeutic review. She has also
been involved with preceptor training and developed Bredin’s acclaimed
preceptor training manual.
Lisa had been involved with adult education through the lectures and
serving as a teacher’s assistant at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University
of Alberta, through the PHARMALearn Network, and presenting various
workshops for pharmacists and other health professions. Lisa earned her
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta in 1996.
To date, Lisa has practiced pharmacy in a variety of settings, in staff
and management roles, and has worked at the University of Alberta, in a
research capacity.

Kathy James Fairbairn, BSc.Pharm, C.P.G.
In
2004, Kathy opened her own independent consulting business providing
clinical services to the Good Samaritan Seniors' Clinic and consulting
services to various not-for-profit organizations.
Kathy's past experience includes being a course coordinator for the
first year experiential program at the Faculty of Pharmacy and has
enjoyed the role of coach-mentor for the Alberta College of Pharmacist
IPO pilot program. In 2007, Kathy was accredited by the U.S. based
Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy as a Certified
Geriatric Pharmacist.

Beshay Zordoky, BSc.Pharm, MSc.
Beshay received his master degree in clinical pharmacy from the Faculty
of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, Egypt. He is currently a Ph.D.
student at Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta, where he is
a teaching assistant for several courses. His interests include teaching
topics related to cardiovascular therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and
pharmacy calculations.
Beshay's background includes tutoring many pharmacists in Egypt to pass
their board examinations in Canada, U.S., and Australia. He also has
over six years of experience working as a clinical pharmacy assistant
lecturer. Beshay offers invaluable personal insight and experience of
having recently passed the qualifying exam (both the written and OSCE)
on his first try.

Cynthia Lambertson Poon, MEd.
Cynthia focused her masters degree on immigrant recertification and has
spent 6 years teaching in the ESL field. Her teaching experience
includes, but is not limited to, TOEFL and Academic ESL at Grant MacEwan
College English Language Training in the Health Care field.
Cynthia has developed programs for, and taught, internationally trained
nurses at Grant MacEwan College and at NorQuest College; Cynthia has
also instructed a session for the International Pharmacy Bridging
Program at Bredin Institute.

Directions for Immigrants in Trades and Professional
Careers (DITPC) provides a study group
service to help internationally educated pharmacists prepare
for the Pharmacy Examining Board
of Canada (PEBC) Evaluating Exam. The study group is facilitated by a Career Coach and
consulting pharmacist and is currently offered in Calgary, Alberta.
